In a move that blends entertainment with governance, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has appointed Nigerian music icon Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, as his Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach. This appointment recognizes 2Baba’s influence in the entertainment industry and his longstanding commitment to social causes.

2Baba, a native of Okpokwu Local Government Area in Benue State, has consistently used his platform to advocate for peace, education, and humanitarian efforts. Through his 2Baba Foundation, he has supported initiatives aimed at improving the lives of displaced persons and vulnerable. His appointment is expected to leverage his experience to engage youth and foster community development.

Governor Alia acknowledged 2Baba’s contributions, stating, _“Once you say ‘2Face,’ people start dancing, even without you singing. So we are happy you’re here. On behalf of the state government and our very good people, I want to give you some more responsibility, plus the ones you have been doing, because you have the capacity to do some more and help us chart the way forward to improve other people’s lives”.

Benue State has faced significant challenges, including insecurity and economic hardship. Governor Alia has emphasized the need for federal and public collaboration to address these issues. With 2Baba’s appointment, the administration aims to use entertainment as a tool for social change, fostering opportunities for young talents.

During his visit to the Government House in Makurdi, 2Baba expressed his commitment to supporting the state, aligning his efforts with his foundation’s work as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. His role will focus on talent development, community outreach, and fostering partnerships to enhance social initiatives.

While many supporters view this appointment as a strategic move to inspire youth and bridge the gap between entertainment and governance, others question the relevance of a musician in a technical advisory role. However, given 2Baba’s track record in philanthropy and advocacy, his influence could prove invaluable in addressing social issues.

As he steps into this new role, expectations are high. Will 2Baba’s expertise in entertainment translate into meaningful community development? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain—his appointment marks a unique intersection of  music, governance, and social impact.
